WHO ARE WE?

Founders and Producers of Resto my Ride, Dec McKearney and Sam Martin had watched car restoration shows on television and always wondered why Australia never produced their very own. Dec and Sam own and run “Resto’s and Rods Garage” a successful car restoration business and often spoke about the need for an Aussie version of the hugely successful shows that they were watching from overseas.

In 2015 Dec and Sam researched and crunched the numbers and came up with the concept for Resto my Ride. Dec, a very skilled car builder and Sam a sponsorship and advertising executive combined their resources and committed to producing the pilot show  “Resto my Ride – EJ for EJ”

Things moved very quickly. Within a few short weeks the team had secured support through numerous sponsorship’s from national and international brands that also believed that there was a gap in the market for an Australian car restoration show and threw their support behind the team and the show.

Well renowned producers and production team were secured and in 10 short weeks the restoration of an 1963 EJ Holden was filmedrestored and gifted to charity and the pilot episode of Resto my Ride was complete.

The pilot show was pitched to Discovery Networks Pacific Rim ( Australia – New Zealand – SE Asia )  and was acquired by the network as s special for a three year term and aired in 2016. The premiere week for the show received the highest amount of viewers across the week than any other show on Discovery Turbo.

Based on the success pf the first show, Custom Entertainment are currently in production of series one that is due for completion in June 2019.

The first series of Resto my Ride has been acquired by Discovery Networks USA for distribution in the USA – Asia Pacific ( Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia ) and the UK with more territories to be confirmed.

THE LANDSCAPE

The market is dominated with US Shows restoring US cars. MotorTrend Network currently exclusively airs (29) US TV shows – episodes..

Such is the success and viewer engagement in car shows that there are exclusive channels dedicated to “car show” content in over 120 countries across the world with Discovery Networks owning the “car enthusiast” market.

With the booming interest in Australian cars on an international level and also the interest of “home grown” Australian content – think Aussie Gold Hunters  – Abalone Wars there is a massive space in the market for our Australian Car Restoration show and why Resto my Ride has been successful selling in to both the local market and the international market.

EJ for EJ 

Dec commits to building an “EJ Holden for the EJ Whitten” Charity Foundation. In only 9 short weeks Dec has to call in his buddies to help finish the build in time for the auction day. Dec gets a huge surprise from his Dad and works with Australia’s most well-known AFL footy legends.

Two for One Mustangs

Resto’s and Rods Garage had resto’d cars for Insurer LSV before so when they asked him build a Custom 1968 Ford Mustang to be unveiled at a car show in only 10 weeks he said yes. In the middle of the build the team head to SEMA in Las Vegas and come back to more work than what they expected.

A very original Bug  

The VW Beetle arrives in a shipping container from New Zealand and the Resto’s and Rods team discover how rare and exclusive this car really is. Dec calls on expert VW specialists to get this car to concours condition for his customer.

We’re going to Bash this Holden

Sam commits the crew to resto a HR Holden so she can go on the Variety Bash and drive from Melbourne to Darwin for Charity. With only three weeks get the car Bash ready Dec must ensure that the car can handle the roads and the wildlife of Outback Australia.

Kingswood Country

When Dec hears 16 year old Sam Coad’s resto story he pledges to help him restore his dream Kingswood Ute. Dec discovers that the car is held together with pop rivets and wonders if it can actually be resto’d for Sam to drive when he gets his licence.

Stars and their Cars

Australian actor Andrew Daddo wants the coolest ride on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Dec has other ideas on how the Resto should look and Andrew is kept in the dark until it’s time to reveal the car in the Stars and their Cars exhibition. Dec and Chip Foose hang out talking Aussie cars at MotorEx Car Festival.
